The doors of the Estonian National Museum are open (from 19 May), with both its permanent exhibitions and the fairytale world of ‘Once Upon a Time’ with its magic forest and other mysterious places. A number of new exhibitions are being lined up for summer.
“Tuuli Puhvel’s stained glass works, Juss Piho’s paintings, Siima Škop’s anniversary showcase and an exhibition of Muhu stockings will all be featured at the museum in the summer months,” said ENM’s Head of Special Projects Viljar Pohhomov. “We’re also planning to make more use of the museum’s outdoor space, including a café and stage beneath the beak, as it were, by the main entrance.” A studio has been set up in the Jakob Hurt Hall from which school graduation ceremonies and conferences can be organised remotely.
In the interests of everyone’s health, we would ask that in visiting the museum you observe the 2+2 rule and disinfect your hands. Cleaning will also be carried out more frequently in the museum: touch screens every two hours and headphones after every use. Only a handful of the exhibits at the museum will remain closed to visitors, such as the Karjala sauna, where it will be impossible to keep a safe distance from other visitors.
A number of new tours are now available, including an excursion entitled ‘Around Raadi’, in which participants will hear stories about Raadi Manor and the museum itself, the former military airfield nearby and archaeological finds and other amazing discoveries in the area.
- Access to the museum will be via the main entrance only.
- The Pööripäev restaurant towards the front of the museum will be open from 10:00-18:00 Tuesday-Sunday. In place of the former buffet, it will be offering a soup and dish of the day (from 12:00-15:00) and a new à la carte menu.
- Room hire is subject to a maximum of 50 participants. The museum’s conference centre will be open to groups half the normal size in July and August. For more detailed information and numbers, see https://www.erm.ee/et/rooms/ruumide-rentimine.
- Bakery items (strietzel, black bread, barley bread, etc.) and spreads (wild garlic pesto, pâté with buckwheat, etc.), can now be ordered from the museum’s online store. For more information, see https://www.erm.ee/et/shop-new/categories/ermi-kokkadelt.
